The Holy Gospel
The Divine Liturgy of the Orthodox Church is steeped in Scripture. Essentially every section of the Divine Liturgy and other liturgical services are either a direct quote or a reflection from the Gospels, Epistles, and Psalms. There are four books that every Orthodox Christian should read continuously and know by heart. These books are Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. The Gospel message of Christ is the literal heart beat of Orthodox Tradition and spirituality. Daily reading of the Gospel should be a part of every Christian's prayer rule, for spiritual edification.
